Securing rare evolution items is a major milestone for trainers aiming to maximize their team potential in the digital streets of Lumiose City. The highly sought-after Metal Coat remains a crucial asset for anyone looking to unlock powerful steel-clad forms. Understanding exactly where to locate this resource will save you hours of aimless wandering throughout your campaign.
Completing Late Game Side Missions
The earliest opportunities to obtain a Metal Coat come from completing specific requests near the end of the main story. Side Mission 101, titled Steadfast as Steel, challenges players to defeat a tough trainer using formidable Steel-type Pokémon on Bleu Street. Overcoming this battle successfully grants a guaranteed Metal Coat as a valuable completion reward.
Another excellent option appears later through Side Mission 114, known as A Feather From Skarmory. Trainers must venture deep into the dangerous terrain of Wild Zone 17 to recover a specialized blade feather dropped by a wild Skarmory. Handing this rare item back to the quest giver rewards you with an additional coating for your collection.
Purchasing Unlimited Supply in the Post Game
For players who have already watched the end credits roll, a much easier distribution method becomes available. Head over to the Racine Construction building and navigate directly into the large back warehouse area. An NPC standing on the left side near the office stairs will offer an unlimited supply of evolution goods.
Each item from this merchant costs exactly 4980 Poké Dollars, making it highly accessible if you have saved up your cash. This retail method eliminates the need to rely on rare random drops from competitive match modes. It ensures you can always evolve multiple shiny variations whenever you manage to catch them.
How to Complete the Special Evolutions
Once you successfully acquire the item, triggering the physical transformation requires a reliable multiplayer connection. You must first open your primary party menu and ensure your chosen creature is actively holding the metallic object. From there, initiate a secure link trade with a trading partner you completely trust.
This special method is the exclusive way to transform your Onix into a massive Steelix or upgrade your Scyther into a swift Scizor. The dramatic evolution will automatically activate on the recipient's screen immediately after the sequence finishes. Make sure your partner safely returns the newly evolved powerhouse back to your personal collection.
